Everyone's always talking about Millennials, it seems.
Whether they're being praised for being socially conscious and innovative, or criticized for alleged entitlement and laziness, this generation is always all over the media.
A lot of people still think of Millennials as the “young people.”
In reality, though, quite a few are currently well into their 30s. No longer teens or even young college students, Millennials have pretty much all joined the “adult world” at this point.
So what about today's teens and college kids? Who are they, then?
That would be Generation Z, and today, they're starting to get to an age where they're a group of people you might want to market to.
How do you reach Gen Z?
While they have a lot of similarities to Millennials, this cohort is also distinct.
One of the biggest features that stands out about Generation Z is that they're all “digital natives.” While a lot of Millennials saw the birth of social media in their teens, and used early pioneer platforms like Myspace and Livejournal, Gen Z was born into a digital world.
They don't remember a time before Youtube and Facebook.
This immersion in the digital world is crucial for reaching them. In a recent infographic, Hubspot presents some insightful statistics from a survey of nearly 1500 people between the ages of 13 and 20.
Some of the major takeaways are that Gen Z loves Youtube, they tend to trust product endorsements from online influencers more than mainstream celebrities, and they lean toward visual media.
