It's never wise to jump right into something without doing some research first. But how much is too much?
Entrepreneurs can easily get trapped by “analysis paralysis.” That's when you spend so much time researching, and doubting an idea, and second-guessing yourself, that you don't get anything done.
A lot of the time, the timing might be something that's on your mind.
“I'll do this when I have more free time.”
“I'll start tomorrow.”
“I'll start when I have more income to invest.”
“I'll start when I'm more sure this idea is a good one.”
This kind of thing is where you can unwittingly get stuck.
“Impulsivity” may not be a good thing, but neither is stalling yourself permanently by overthinking your business idea.
In a recent article in Entrepreneur, the author explains it rather succinctly.
Waiting for the ‘perfect’ time.
There will never be a perfect time to start your business.
You’ll always be able to come up with a really good excuse to put off your dreams until a later date. Being an entrepreneur requires a lot of courage, and courage requires taking action, even when the time doesn’t feel 100 percent right.
As Bruce Lee said, “To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”
The only way to achieve your vision is to try, learn from your mistakes, and keep on working. Once you take that first, frightening step, you’ve already started to build momentum, making each successive action easier than the last.
