Sometimes, something really takes off in popular culture and internet culture, in a really massive way.
From the ice bucket challenge, to Harambe the gorilla, to today's fidget spinner fad, trends come and go all the time.
The internet moves even more quickly than traditional media did before it. A fad can rise up and die out in a matter of just a few months.
When this happens, it's tempting to jump on the bandwagon.
After all, there's obviously money to be made there. But sometimes, starting a “trendy” business might not be the best option available to you.
The thing with trends is that they die off.
That's just part of the entire phenomenon. This applies to trends within the niche entrepreneurial community too, not just trends in pop culture.
Just because everyone else is jumping on the latest trendy thing, like dropshipping or selling t-shirts, it doesn't mean that you should do the same.
A recent video from Entrepreneur explains how long-term thinking, and looking beyond just recent trends, can help you build a business that stands the test of time.
