Whether you're trying to rank in a Google search, or you're trying to rank your video content on Youtube, there are some search queries where being on the first page is a tall order.
One of the best examples of such a ridiculously high-competition keyword is “SEO.” Most people wouldn't even try for that, even on Youtube.
In most cases, it's more reasonable to go after related “longtail” keywords, like “SEO strategy tips” or “SEO for legal practices.”
But Brian Dean, one of the leading authorities in the SEO world, was actually able to pull off the impossible: one of his videos ranks first if you search “seo” on Youtube.
That's an incredible feat.
To do this, he didn't need any fancy production values, and he didn't need an astronomical budget.
Using some basic best practices, as well as genuinely useful content, he was able to rank against some pretty heavy competition.
In a recent video, he presents a full case study detailing how he did it.
Unfortunately, I can't embed the video here, so you'll have to head over to their site to watch the video.
