On Tuesday, August 13th, Google published a post to its AdWords blog informing users that the newest version of its AdWords Editor was now available, which now supports upgraded sitelinks.
Upgraded sitelinks originally rolled out in June of this year just before all AdWords accounts were forced to transition to enhanced campaigns. These upgraded links allow advertisers to display additional details below each link that you place in your AdWords ads.
How To Use The New Upgraded Sitelinks
To use the AdWords updated sitelinks, you will have to download the newest version of the Editor, which is available via the blog or your AdWords dashboard. When the download is complete, you will notice that the enhanced Editor give you a lot more freedom and functions that the old version didn’t quite offer.
The new editor, which is now at version 10.2, comes with a series of new functions, many of which advertisers should find exciting. The download is free and instant and can be found at the AdWords blog or by logging into your account.
The first benefit you will receive from upgrading to the new AdWords Editor is the ability to view all of your upgraded sitelinks. You can view these by clicking on the new upgraded sitelinks tab, which is accessible through the Extensions drop down menu.
The new Editor also makes it easy to copy and paste your AdWords updated sitelinks from one campaign or ad group to the next. Furthermore, you can include your upgraded sitelinks with all imports and exports. This means that you can spread your new sitelinks around, improving the attention you garner and your conversions.
One of the greatest advancements that the new Editor offers advertisers is the ability to change your sitelink’s platform targeting preferences. For instance, do you want your AdWords updated sitelinks to target all devices across the board or only desktops? Maybe you want your sitelinks to target desktops and mobile devices only, leaving tablets out of the mix. This is the type of control you will maintain when you download the new Editor version 10.2.
You can also schedule the new AdWords updated sitelinks to appear anytime you want. If you want them to show up only on Monday's, that's when they'll show up. You can choose only weekdays, only evenings, or you can choose to have your ads show up during a certain time of day every day. Or you can completely disable your upgraded sitelinks at the ad group level altogether.
Other Changes To Be Aware Of
If you are going to download the new AdWords Editor, you should be aware that all image file sizes now have a limit of 150K. You will be happy to know that accelerated delivery, which as the name implies delivers your ads to your target much faster, is now allowed for all campaigns that use automatic bidding.
One particular upgrade that should interest advertisers is the ability to view the number of search users. In the new Editor, there will actually be a ‘No. of search users’ column when you add user lists to your Audiences tab.
Under the Placements tab, as well as the Audiences tab, there is a new read-only column titled ‘Targeted Settings' that will show ‘Target and Bid' items, as well as ‘Bid only'.
You may also enter URLs with the dynamic insertion format tags {ifmobile} and {ifnotmobile} for both sitelinks and ads. And to make the new Editor even more enticing, the AdWords updated sitelinks and some new AdWords ad types now have destination URLs that allow you up to 2076 characters. This is a far cry from the previous limit of 1024 characters.
What All Of This Means For Advertisers
As an advertiser, the new AdWords Editor allows you more control over your ads, but it also allows you to offer more information to your audience through your ads. Over two-thousand characters is a lot when you consider that the longest tweet is only 140 characters. Think of what you could tell your targeted audience, what you could say to entice them to click.
To download the new Editor and use the new updated sitelinks features, visit the official AdWords blog and follow the instructions. As Google continues to upgrade its online advertising platform, advertises will have even more tools for targeting their audience and earning a return on their investment. Follow Google’s advancements and take advantage of all of these new features by downloading the new Editor 10.2 today.
