Do you dream of one day making money from inventions that you just make up out of the blue? What a cool job that would be. Many of today’s most used items, from the iPhone to the microwave to the refrigerator to the desk were all thought up by someone first. Someone had the motivation to not only come up with the idea, but to put it on paper and ultimately make that dream become a reality. Some get rich from their ideas, like the guy who famously made a million dollars from the pet rock, and some end up penniless like Nikola Tesla, who invented the AC generator among other technological marvels around the turn of the 20th century. As they say, you should never measure yourself against others, you should only measure yourself against who you were yesterday. So today, put on your thinking cap and start dreaming big. The first step when learning how to create cool inventions is to start brainstorming. Get out a piece of paper or poise yourself at your keyboard with your favorite word processer open and start thinking of inventions to create. Or you might improve on the microwave. Don’t worry if you’re not that technically proficient. There are cool inventions to be created at every stage of life. Just turn on the infomercials at two in the morning and you’ll see an entire slew of people who not only knew how to create cool inventions, but that had the foresight to create actual products and sell them on TV. You might be the next person to revolutionize the way we cook turkeys, for example. “Stick the frozen turkey in the TurkeyBox and in five minutes it’s done.” Now that would be a cool invention.

The first step to making your product or idea a reality is to see if that product or idea has been patented before. You can start with the poor man’s (or women’s) patent when first learning how to create cool inventions. That is where you draw a diagram of your inventions, and describe them in painstaking detail, before you put them in an envelope and mail them to yourself. You can show all your poor patent envelopes (unopened and postmarked of course) to a judge in the off chance that someone comes forward to claim your inventions for themselves.
