Most adults after entering the workforce become accustomed to long commute times, spending long hours away from home and some jobs even require a person to be gone for days as they travel from state to state or country to country. Why do all that when you can work from home? A home based business not only allows you the freedom to work when you want, but you can wear what you want, you don’t have to listen to ‘the man’ and you don’t have to spend a minute away from your comfort zone or family. There are essentially two types of work from home business opportunities. There are those that you create yourself after developing a skill, product or other commodity, and then there are those that were created by someone else, sort of like a work from home franchise business. The following will delve into both types of businesses, as well as offer the best work from home jobs for those who just can’t stand the 9-to-5 grind.
Who Is Working From Home?
Most people slaving away at jobs they hate consider work from home business opportunities to be a myth propagated by scammers who want nothing more than to separate fools from their hard-earned money. While it is true that many scammers promise that you can work from home in your underwear and still make more than your day job, there are also plenty of actual opportunities that will allow you to do just that.
The best work from home jobs are those that require nothing more than a computer and an online connection. For example, right now there are freelance writers, graphic designers and coders working at their home desks with a steaming coffee cup by their side and probably a dog at their feet or a cat in their lap. Or maybe there is a screaming child running back and forth in the background.
Other work from home jobs include medical transcriptionists, accountants, photographers, wedding planners, dog trainers, consultants, massage therapists, cosmetologists, makeup artists, pet groomers – the list goes on and on. Basically, if you can provide a service that others are willing to pay for and you have all the equipment and necessities required to provide that service, you can work from home.
How To Get Started
For the first type of work from home business, the kind you start yourself, you will need a business plan, just as you would if you were going to start a brick-and-mortar type of office or storefront. Working from home may offer its freedoms, but it is still a business and should be treated as such.
You will want to plan out how you will offer your services to others, what you will charge, how you will collect money, how you will market your home-based business, and you must come up with a fee structure and budget that allows you to pay all expenses while still turning a profit, even if that profit doesn’t come right away.
You will be handling all invoicing, bill collection, customer service and all the other administrative tasks of your business; so you must also plan your schedule. Or find someone who can help you, such as a freelance bookkeeper (who also might work from home).
The other type of work from home business is one that someone else created, such as in the case of multi-level marketing or MLM. With this type of business, you will oftentimes sell a product, let’s say a bottle of vitamins. Not only will you sell the product, but you will also keep an eye out for motivated individuals that you can add to your team. These go-getters will also sell vitamins and will also build a team, and you will receive a commission off of everything that person and his or her team earns. If you can manage to sell enough product and build enough teams, and if those teams manage to build enough teams, you can retire while still collecting commission checks well into old age.
These MLM work from home business opportunities allow you to set your own schedule and work from anywhere, all while building off of someone else’s success. It’s less work than starting your own business, but it’s no walk in the park, either. You must focus on selling and team building, which when perfected can lead to super high commission rates with the right opportunity.
If you are interested in starting your own work from home business or you would like to find one that someone else started, look for blogs and true story accounts from people who have actually lived it, and then emulate their experiences. Many people have lived and continue to live comfortable lives working from their homes, and the best work from home jobs are just a simple search away.
