Online advertising is big business. Take Google, for example. The company generated $13.1 billion in the second quarter of 2013 alone. The only obvious question is: How can you make a little bit of that money flow your way? After all, a little bit of $13.1 billion might be a very nice payday. The good news is that online advertising continues to grow every year. Google’s second quarter earnings represent a 20% increase from last year, just to give you some idea. With more companies making the move to advertise online, this is your chance to make money from this lucrative and ever expanding digital industry.
Google Adsense
Google has two online advertising platforms that you can use to make money from – Adsense and Adwords. Adwords is the one you would use if you had a product, service or brand to promote. You would be able to create ads and bid on select keywords in order for your ads to show up in front of relevant Google users. Adsense works a bit differently.
With Adsense, you don’t have to create ads to advertise online. You simply have to come up with the content. With a website or blog that produces relevant and consistent content, you can make money from the Adsense online advertising platform. You will choose where you would like the ads show up and which types of ads you would like to display and the ads will show themselves not long after. The more impressions you generate – that is, the more screens your ads show up on – the more money you will make. As with most avenues that are used to advertise online, this requires an immense amount of traffic to be successful.
Video Adsense Ads
Many people are making money off of their YouTube video channels, which is another way to make money via the Adsense online advertising platform. Just as you would with a website or blog, you will need to generate fresh and relevant videos on a constant basis in the hopes of building a following. Encourage people who may be interested in your content to subscribe to your channel to improve your viewership numbers even further.
The higher each video’s viewership, the more your earnings will be by the end of the month. Keep bringing fresh videos and you’ll double and triple your online advertising revenue in no time. You can then combine your website and blogging efforts by imbedding your fresh videos within your new fresh content.
Selling Advertising
Once you have built up a healthy library of engaging content, and you start to build some impressive traffic numbers, you can expand your revenue generation efforts by selling advertising space on your website or blog.
The best way to do this is to reach out to companies in your industry; that is, companies that would be interested in putting a banner ad on your site or blog. The companies you approach will of course want to view your site, blog or channel for themselves to determine if the content is of the caliber the company wishes to associate with. Interested parties will also want to see traffic numbers and proof of engagement, such as how many comments were generated per blog and how many of those commenters were returning visitors.
You will then set a rate per month, which will add to the money you are already making via your Adsense site/blog and video ads.
Expanding Your Efforts to Advertise Online
One you have a product to offer – your site, blog or channel – you can then advertise that product via Adwords or on the various social media sites that offer paid advertising. You will create the ad – text or image – and you will set the keywords that you want to bid for. Your keywords represent the terms the average person would put into the Google search box to search for your type of content. You will then bid on those keywords in the hopes that your ads will show up prominently on targeted search users’ computer screens.
While there are many ways to go about online advertising, the best advice is to start slowly. Build up a site, blog or YouTube channel – or do all three – and start using Adsense to generate revenue with fresh, engaging and relevant content. Then reach out to companies who may be interested in buying ad space on your individual platforms; and expand even more by attempting to make money via PPC and other paid online advertising methods.
The key to successfully advertise online is persistence and having a great product. If you follow the above steps and you put your all into producing content that your audience truly enjoys, you’ll have no problem in your efforts to make money from online advertising; and you can take that to the bank.
